    We look at the rug first. Age, fiber and how the dyes behave all change what the job takes, so the price follows the inspection.

How it works

  1. Bring it in or call

    Drop the rug at the Aberdeen showroom, or call and we will talk through collecting it.

  2. Inspection and quote

    We check the fiber, the dyes, the foundation and any damage, then tell you what it will cost before anything starts.

  3. Dusted and washed

    Dry soil comes out first — most of what makes a rug look tired is grit sitting under the pile. Then the rug is washed with organic cleaners.

  4. Dried naturally

    No forced heat. Natural drying is slower and it is the reason the pile and the dyes come back the way they went in.

  5. Finished and returned

    Pile groomed, fringes straightened, wrapped and ready. We will tell you when it is done.

Questions

Do you clean wall-to-wall carpet in my home?

No. We wash area rugs, and the rug has to come to us — that is what makes a proper wash possible. If you need wall-to-wall carpet cleaned in place, you want a truck-mount carpet cleaning company, which is a different trade.

We do supply and install wall-to-wall carpet, which is a separate service.

How much does rug cleaning cost?

It depends on the size of the rug, what it is made of, and its condition. A machine-made polypropylene rug and a hand-knotted silk rug of the same size are not the same job. We inspect the rug and quote before any work starts, so there is nothing to agree to until you have the number.

Can you clean an antique or hand-knotted Persian rug?

Yes. Older hand-knotted rugs are the ones that most need washing by hand rather than by machine — the dyes can run and the foundation can be fragile. That is why we test dyes during the inspection before choosing how to wash it.

My rug smells of pet urine. Can that be fixed?

Usually. Urine soaks through the pile into the foundation, so surface cleaning makes a rug smell better for a week and then it returns. It has to be flushed out of the base of the rug. Bring it in and we will tell you honestly whether it can be saved — sometimes, where the dyes have already been damaged, it cannot.

How often should a rug be cleaned?

For a rug in a normally used living room, every two to three years. A hallway or a home with pets or small children is closer to annually. Vacuuming regularly in between does more for a rug's life than any wash does.

What if my rug also needs repair?

Cleaning usually comes first, because damage is easier to see and to match once the rug is clean. Fringe, binding, reweaving and pet damage are all handled in the same place.
