Wool & Silk Rugs

Wool ground, silk highlights. Silk is used sparingly in these rugs — picked through a border, a vine, or the center of a medallion — because it does something wool cannot: it catches light and changes tone as you walk past it. Against a matte wool field, that contrast is the whole effect.

Almost all of this collection is hand-knotted, and almost all of it is traditional in pattern. Silk accenting is a technique from the classical workshops, and it is still where it looks best.

These are display rugs more than working ones. Silk is softer than wool and will show wear faster in a traffic lane, so put one where it will be looked at rather than walked across — a formal living room, a dining room, under a bed.

Shipping is a flat $25, and free on orders over $200. Returns are accepted within 15 days of delivery, with return shipping paid by the buyer.
